There will be a Fellowship meeting at the FSFE Zurich office from 18:00 until 19:00 on Friday the 21st of November. Some free (as in beer) beer will be provided and all Fellows nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, to discuss ways of spreading the word about Free Software in Switzerland, and to generally have a good time. (2008-11-15) Fellowship meeting, Bolzano, Italy
On Saturday, 15th November at 14:00 h there will be a Fellowship meeting at the TIS Innovation Park of Bolzano. The meeting is open to Fellows and all persons interested in FSFE's work in Italy and the projects of the Fellowship. The meeting has two parts. First Patrick Ohnewein, coordinator of the Italian FSFE group, will talk about the activities of the FSFE and the Fellowship in Italy. In the second part the Fellows will be invited to make proposals for and discuss about future initiatives to promote and help Free Software. [External event homepage...]

(2008-11-13) Fellowship meeting in Berlin
The monthly Fellowship meeting is going to take place on the 13th of November. We will meet at 7:30pm at the NewThinking store in Berlin-Mitte (Tucholskystraße 48). Topics include: BLIT review, FSCONS report, "How can we collaborate with the different organizations around Free Software and Education?" and presentation 2009. We like to welcome you on the 13th.

(2008-11-06 to 2008-11-07) NLUUG Autumn Conference and CELF Embedded Linux Conference Europe, Ede, Netherlands
The FSFE will be attending the NLUUG Autumn Conference on Thursday 6th November. This year's theme is 'mobility'. Feel free to come to our booth and ask about Free Software! Shane Coughlan, Freedom Task Force coordinator at FSFE, will also deliver talk entitled 'The strategic implementation of free software in business' at the CELF Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2008 at the same location on the following day, Friday 7th November. The successful implementation of Free Software requires an understanding of the best policy and processes applicable to its context. Shane will discuss how FSFE's legal project and its European Legal Network have engaged with this issue by producing generic market knowledge for supply and purchasing contracts, work flow documents and deployment methodology. (2008-11-01) BLIT 2008, Potsdam, Germany
FSFE will be present with a booth at this years Brandenburger Linux Info Tag (BLIT). The Fellowship Group Berlin will man a booth to inform visitors about various aspects of Free Software. Also T-shirts and books about Free Software will be sold. The event starts at 10 am and takes place at the University Campus Griebnitzsee in Potsdam. Admission is free as in free beer. (2008-10-28) Fellowship meeting in Weingarten, Germany
Fellow Christof Raber will host a Fellowship meeting at Weltehof, Welte 1, 88250 Weingarten on Tuesday the 28th of October at 19:00. All Fellows and Free Software supporters nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, discuss all Free Software and FSFE related topics and to generally have a good time.

(2008-10-24 to 2008-10-26) FSCONS 2008, Gothenburg, Sweden
For 2008, FSCONS is a collaboration of FSFE, Creative Commons, and Wikimedia Sweden. There will be three tracks (Free Culture, Free Software, Free Content), each lead by one of the main organisers. From 21. October to 24. October the SYSTEMS will take place in Munich, Germany. SYSTEMS is a professional business-to-business exhibition for the ICT market and addresses business and technical decision-makers in commercial enterprises and the public sector.

(2008-10-22) Fellowship meeting in Munich, Germany
On Wednesday the 22th of October at 19:00 OpenOffice.org and FSFE will host together the OpenOffice.org regulars' table and the first Fellowship meeting in Munich, Germany. It will take place at the Augustinerkeller, Arnulfstraße, Munich (www.augustinerkeller.de)
All Fellows and Free Software supporters nearby are invited to attend. It will be a good chance to get to know each other in person, discuss all Free Software and FSFE related topics and to generally have a good time.

(2008-10-19) Dinner in Geneva on the 19th October
Benjamin Morant and Ciaran O'Riordan invite you to a FSFE meeting in Geneva on the Sunday 19th October on the evening. A Belgian Fellowship meeting will take place on Thursday August 7th in Brussels. We will meet at 20:00 in Café Walvis, 209 rue Antoine Dansaert, Brussels. It's an informal meeting, like the last meeting, so we'll mostly chat about whatever Free Software topics the attendees are interested in. We'll also continue the discussion of how to launch quarterly meetings, and Ciaran O'Riordan will give an update on OpenStreetMap. This meeting can be discussed on FSFE's Benelux mailinglist.

(2008-10-09) Monthly Berlin Fellowship Meeting
The Fellowship Group in Berlin will meet on the 10th October at 19:30. We will evaluate past actions like 25 years GNU and Software Freedom Day. For the future we will plan our attendance at the BLIT and talk about the pdfreaders campaign. The Location is as usual the New Thinking Store, Tucholsky Strasse.

(2008-09-29) European Legal Network special interest group meeting in Brussels
The European Legal Network facilitated by FSFE's Freedom Task Force will hold a special interest group meeting in Brussels to discuss software patents and other legal issues. This meeting will be hosted at the Wilmer Hale law offices and is invitation only.

(2008-09-27) GNU's 25th Birthday in Berlin, Germany
The GNU-project is turning 25 on the 27th of September. Therefore we will pop the corks at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. We will meet at 3pm. There will be champaign and some music to celebrate. See you on saturday.

(2008-09-06 to 2008-09-07) Fellowship's stand at the Braderie de Lille, Lille (France)
The so-called "Braderie de Lille" (Lille's flea market) is a big outside-event which has taken place every year since the 12th century during the first week-end of september. chtinux, a Linux User Group which is installed around there, has proposed to the Fellowship to take part in the Braderie. The FSFE, and especially the Fellowship's stand, will get much visibility, since millions of people of numerous nations take a walk on Lille's streets. Come to discover this beautiful city and to eat some Braderie's culinary specialities like clams ! And above all, come in order to support the Fellowship ! The Vienna Fellowship Group invites to a speech of Shane Martin Coughlan about "The Professionalisation of Free Software. Where we are going next." (in Englisch). The event which is organised in the context of a q/talk special takes place in Room D / quartier21, QDK / Electric Avenue, MQ Wien on 5 September 2008, starting at 20:00. Entrance is from 19:00. (2008-07-16) 'How SELF helped building structures for freedom' speech at FKFT
SELF has contributed on various levels to freedom in software and education. The work of the SELF Legal Experts Group (LEG) has helped to evolve a better understanding of Open Standards and provided a reference line for free educational materials. The coordinator of the SELF LEG, FSFE president Georg Greve, will provide an insight on how SELF has helped advance the state of the art, and how the work done in the SELF consortium will provide lasting benefit to the Free Software community. (2008-07-16) 'Licences that support freedom' speech at FKFT
Shane will talk about the types of licence that provide and protect freedoms of use, study, sharing and improvement in both technology and educational text. He will review the main challenges that platforms like SELF may encounter from the legal point of view and what kind of mechanisms help support reliable legal infrastructure. (2008-07-10) Fellowship barbecue with the FFII in Berlin
The local Fellowship group in Berlin will have a joined barbecue with the FFII on the 10th of July. The meeting will start at 7:30pm in FFII office, which is located at the Malmöer Straße 6 close to Bornholmer Straße. Don't forget to bring you favourite barbecue stuff. (2008-06-07) Social event in Zürich - meet the FSFE!
This year's General Assembly of FSFE takes place in Zurich, and as usual, there will be a social event where the members of the General Assembly meet Fellows and other local Free Software supporters.
Around 18:20 the crowd will leave from the FSFE office at Sumatrastrasse 25 and walk through the old town in direction to Bellview.
At 19:00 we will catch a ferry from Zurich Burkiplatz.
At 19:47 the ferry will arrive in Erlenbach where -- due to the weather conditions -- we will continue the evening with a nice dinner at the Restaurant Malabar Garden in Kuesnacht where we expect to be until at least 23:00.

The second eLiberatica takes place on 30 and 31 May 2008 in the World Trade Center Bucharest, Romania.

On Saturday 31th May 14-15 pm, Matthias Kirschner will give a speech at Linuxtag in Berlin. The talk is about the importance of the four freedoms to use, study, share and improve software and their influence in politics and economy. FSFE's Freedom Task Force will host the first European Licensing and Legal Workshop for Free Software on Friday the 11th of April in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The venue for this meeting is the InterContinental Amstel Hotel. The event is targeted towards large projects and medium to large enterprises wishing to discuss their existing licence compliance processes. Parties attending are expected to contribute to issues ranging from process development through to optimising purchasing contract language for the benefit of the European Free Software community. In his talk, Mr Greve will explain the concept of Free Software and how it relates to maintaining our scientific basis as a society. As a practical example of this collaboration, the talk will give a brief introduction of the Science, Education and Learning in Freedom project, in which the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research plays a crucial role. The talk will close with an overview of how all of this relates to the global political trends of knowledge monopolisation, and the Access to Knowledge initiative.

The eLiberatica Conference is the most important romanian event concerning Free Software. FSFE will be present at the first Italian Conference on Free Software, a conference intended to examine the state of the art in Free Software. (2007-04-01) GPLv3: Improving a Great Licence
On Sunday April 1st, at 17h00, in Brussels, Richard Stallman will present the current status of the global project to update Free Software's keystone licence: the GNU GPL. This talk will be Stallman's first since the release of discussion draft 3 - the draft crafted to block patent deals such as that of Novell+Microsoft. The Grand Jury of the EU Court of Justice is ready for the big hearing on the Microsoft Antitrust Case. The hearing will take place in the Grande Salle of the EU Court, from the 24th until the 28th of April. Georg Greve president of FSFE, Carlo Piana FSFE's lawyer on the case and Andrew Tridgell of the Samba Team will be present at the event to defend the Court from Microsoft's legal team efforts of circumventing once again their obligations.

At the first international conference on Access to Knowledge, held at Yale Law School, Karsten Gerloff will moderate a panel discussion on "Licensing Frameworks for Access to Knowledge". The goal of the conference is to come up with a new analytic framework for analysing the possibly distortive effects of public policies relying exclusively on copyright and patents. The 7th edition of the Free Software Forum (FISL) will once more take place in Porto Alegre, Brazil and also host the second international conference on GPLv3. FSFE will be represented at this event by its president, Georg Greve, and FSFE's Brussels representative, Ciaran O'Riordan. Both will speak at the GPLv3 event, and participate during the main FISL event: Georg Greve will give one of the opening talks, titled "Free Software - Social Movement or Technological Revolution?" and Ciaran O'Riordan will talk about work against software patents. The third Austrian Fellowship meeting takes place on 17 March starting at 18:00 in Vienna at the Cafe Panoptikum, Schultergasse 4, first district.
